About Hampton Court
Hampton Court Palace sits on a bend of the Thames just southwest of London, and has been shaped by centuries of royal ambition. Cardinal Wolsey built it as a statement of his own power in the early 1500s — a decision that arguably cost him his career once Henry VIII decided he wanted it for himself. What followed was decades of royal expansion: the Great Hall, the vast Tudor kitchens, and later the more restrained baroque wing added under William and Mary.
