Hampton Court Tour
Your driver-guide will meet you at your hotel and introduce the day’s itinerary before setting off for your visit to Hampton Court Palace.
Located just 12 miles from Central London on the banks of the River Thames, Hampton Court is one of England’s finest Tudor palaces and a remarkable place to explore centuries of royal history. Construction of the palace began in 1515 for Thomas Wolsey, the powerful chief minister and close adviser to Henry VIII. Wolsey created a residence of extraordinary scale and luxury—so impressive that it rivalled the King’s own palaces. Following Wolsey’s fall from favour, Henry VIII claimed the palace for himself and expanded it significantly, transforming it into one of the most important royal residences of the Tudor period.
In the late 17th century the palace became home to William III of England and Mary II of England. Preferring a more modern style of architecture, they began replacing sections of the Tudor palace with an elegant Baroque design created by Christopher Wren. However, after Mary’s death the rebuilding project was halted, leaving Hampton Court with its unique and fascinating blend of Tudor and Baroque architecture.
Today, the palace is surrounded by magnificent gardens, including the famous 300-year-old maze, making it a memorable visit for both adults and children alike.
Please note: Hampton Court Palace is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the Chapel Royal may be closed to visitors at certain times on Sundays.
